I've helped design and architect many systems that continue to pay increasing dividends, including a new front end architecture for placing orders in our ever-expanding asset class. I also helped integrate Futures and Perpetual Futures into our existing platform architecture.

  1. Architecture

    Futures trading

Spent nine months designing and architecting how futures fit into the platform end to end, an asset far more complex than anything we supported before, for our active traders.

    • Launched June 2026
    • Selection still expanding
  2. Feature

    Physical gold

Expanded the asset classes clients can invest in with physically backed gold, including redeeming holdings for a Wealthsimple gold coin delivered to their door.

  3. Feature

    Rolling options

Led the mobile work that lets clients roll an options position to a later date in one seamless order, the first step towards supporting more advanced options strategies.

  4. Project

Order flow migration to React Hook Form

Led a six-month migration of the order flow from Redux to React Hook Form to fix performance problems, across several asset classes, without clients noticing anything except that it got faster.

    • Faster order entry
    • No visible change for clients

Scaling my impact on the product

Software Engineer IIJan 2022 – Jul 20242 yrs 6 mos

I was part of the initial cohort of developers that built Options in 2022. Today, that product is one of our biggest revenue drivers in investing. I also helped re-build our website from the ground up, re-built our charting engine for prolific use cases, and more.

  1. Architecture

    Charting engine rewrite

Rebuilt our charting engine so one foundation could power every chart in the app, with smooth scrubbing, range switching and gain/loss coloring.

  2. Project

    Website rebuild

Helped rebuild the Wealthsimple web app from the ground up, bringing the full dashboard (net worth, spending, every account and its holdings) to the browser.

  3. Feature

    Options trading launch

Part of the first cohort of engineers who built options trading from scratch: the options chain, contract detail and the order flow for buying and selling contracts.

    • One of the biggest revenue drivers in investing

Product Developer In Training

Software Engineer IMay 2021 – Jan 20228 mos

Joined Wealthsimple and ramped up on the fractional shares project led by my excellent colleagues. I got accustomed to becoming a product developer and participated in many other projects, including USD accounts + our subscription plan at that time (Plus).

  1. Feature

    USD accounts

Added USD support to accounts, so clients can hold and trade in US dollars instead of only Canadian dollars.

    • Hold and trade in USD
  2. Feature

    Fractional shares

My first project after joining: fractional share trading, so clients can buy as little as 0.0001 of a share instead of needing the price of a whole one.

    • Buy from 0.0001 shares
